The Claudia Taylor Johnson Color Guard combines dance, artistry, and skill — using flags, sabres, and rifles — into enchanting visual performance.

The outstanding CTJ Guard is an intricate part of the fall season Marching Band program — and integral to the success of the 2017 competition show, “The Forest Through The Trees.”

CTJ performing Lady BirdColor Guard is fast becoming one of the most popular activities at CTJ. The CTJ Color Guard — under the direction of Darryl Pemberton and led by captains
Bethany Brown, Rory Gaudette, and Paige Lamm — performs with the Claudia Taylor Johnson Marching Band at all appearances and competitions including Texas UIL and Bands of America regional and national events. The CTJ Guard’s artistry and skill are important to the band’s success in the Visual and General Effect judged scoring categories in these competitions.

In the winter and spring seasons, the CTJ Guard performs in official Texas Color Guard Circuit and Winter Guard International (WGI) appearances. The Winter Guard often travels to venues across the state and region in competitions incorporating a wide range of visual performance arts and choreography. CTJ Winter Guard is a consistent medalist in WGI championship and regional competitions.

The 2018 show is called “Lady Bird,” paying tribute to the former First Lady whose name graces the school, now in its 10th season.
